President Trump has an extremely difficult decision to make. There is mounting evidence that Joe Biden took tainted money from his son and brother when he was Vice President. No such gain is listed on Mr. Biden's tax returns, which are public.
That description is not a conviction. The former President is presumed to be innocent and has denied any wrongdoing. But the American people are absolutely entitled to know the truth, even if millions of them don't want to know for ideological reasons.
Only President Trump can clarify the situation. The FBI and IRS would have to conduct a joint investigation in order to secure hard evidence against the former President. Mr. Trump well knows if that happens, the corrupt media will hang a "vengeance" sign around his neck. In addition, as a victim of political investigations himself, the President has little use for them on an emotional level.
Nevertheless, under the banner of equal justice, Joe Biden's finances should be scrutinized. This country simply cannot tolerate grifting in powerful political precincts.
Here's how intense the situation truly is. No president in history has been charged with accepting bribes or selling influence for cash. U.S. Grant's brother-in-law as well as Grant's private secretary were both accused of financial crimes. But the President apparently was not involved, and left office stone-cold broke.
Warren Harding was surrounded by corruption, as I detail in "Confronting the Presidents," but was never charged with anything. Harding's sudden death in San Francisco might have prevented that.
Going forward, Congressmen James Comer and Jim Jordan will continue to investigate Joe Biden, and both have publicly stated that they believe he took secretive payments. But Congress cannot prosecute the case; only the Justice Department can do that.
And so it is up to President Trump to order the probe. He has not yet addressed the matter directly.
Will Donald Trump seek the truth about Joe Biden? I think he will. But I could be wrong because all hell will break out if he does.
To use a biblical reference, will the gates of hell prevail?
I hope not. Let's find out the truth.
