Some very bizarre things happened in America last week, so let's provide badly needed perspective. My intent here is to simply state the truth, not to convince anyone of anything.
President Trump's first three weeks in office have been mesmerizing. In military parlance, he has launched a "blitzkrieg" of political changes designed to stun his opposition. Every day there is something new and mostly designed to infuriate the liberal folks who hate him. I am convinced Mr. Trump is having more fun than he's ever had in his entire life.
First, Elon Musk. Watch Senator Elizabeth Warren's face when that name is mentioned. Deep, deep brow furrows. It's like Frau Blücher in the movie "Young Frankenstein." Whenever the name "Blücher" is uttered, the horses go nuts.
Musk is the new Frau Blücher.
Mr. Elon drives the left insane. He's essentially counting federal beans trying to cut ridiculous spending. Somehow this is not good in the liberal world view.
Meanwhile, the national debt is $38 trillion, and Joe Biden ran it up to the tune of two trillion a year. Way to go, Joe. Paging Marie Antoinette.
Then we have the FBI. Some agents are under scrutiny, might be fired. How can this be, wails MSNBC? Well, maybe because the bureau embraced the phony Russian collusion scandal designed to help Hillary Clinton, secured eavesdropping warrants using false information, surveilled pro-life folks in Virginia as possible terrorists, and totally booted the Hunter Biden laptop thing.
Might those be the reasons, NBC News? Surely, right?
How about the trans thing?
According to the polls, about 75 percent of the public believes it's wrong for biological males to compete against girls/women on the athletic field. So, Trump is banning that where he can. Harry can still meet Sally, just not on the soccer turf.
Here's my question: who opposes the ban? Cher? Taylor Swift? Oprah? Who?
Then there's the price of eggs. Up big. The President may sign an Executive Order demanding hens work overtime. But they won't because it's the very contagious bird flu that is crushing egg production. That insidious malady began hitting American farms in 2022. So it's obviously Joe Biden's fault.
That's a jest for you people in San Francisco.
But pulling President Biden's national security clearance was not done in jest. Trump did it to diminish him, the same way Biden denied Trump's clearance in February 2021.
However, I'm not a goose/gander kind of guy. Both Presidents embraced petty. Also, I apologize for all the "fowl" language in this column (come on, pretty good pun.)
Finally, President Trump may be overdoing it. New York City and Los Angeles are falling apart, and now we're supposed to take over Gaza, Greenland, Canada, and Panama? Geez. Who's going to run these places?
Wait. Does the name Blücher mean anything to you?
