Did you catch Donald Trump’s Monday press conference at Mar-a-Lago? It is Must See TV, a perfect illustration of the president-elect’s standing right now as, in the words of Van Jones, ‘the most powerful human on earth and in our lifetime.’
In contrast, the reporters who questioned Trump were relatively mild-mannered and meek, mere shadows of their former arrogant selves. There was no Jim Acosta, whose displays of disrespect turned him into a left-wing idol. Hostility may return after the inauguration, but right now, the press corps resembles frightened turtles.
Donald Trump stands atop the political mountain, having vanquished nearly all his foes. Prosecutors have been held in check, recalcitrant Republicans are in tow, corporate media is a low-rated mess, and tech titans are making the trek to Florida on bended knee. The late Tom Wolfe wrote a novel called ‘A Man in Full,’ which centered on a real estate tycoon who had it all. Right now, Donald Trump is a man at the peak of his powers.
But while Trump’s legion of enemies is very quiet at the moment, no one should think his adversaries are defeated. Rather, Democrats and their media allies are lying in wait, ready to pounce at any sign of weakness. Donald Trump, who has gained much wisdom over the past eight years, knows that his foes are badly wounded … but certainly not dead.
