The Art of the Deal
March 7, 2025
Another day, another tariff. Or Tariff pause. Or new deal. Or something.

Even I can't keep up and I get paid to watch the powers that be.  But unlike the vast majority of pundits, I know much of the stuff coming out of the Trump White House is political theatre - designed to bewitch, bother, and bewilder.

It's the art of the deal when the primary deal-maker doesn't really give a fig about public perception.  President Trump understands that memories are short.  It doesn't really matter how you get there as long as you arrive in style.

Trump will improve America's trade portfolio.  He is likely to get mineral deals in Ukraine and Greenland.  Panama already fired the Chinese companies working the canal and will drop shipping tolls on U.S. vessels.  Hamas will release the hostages. Iran will publicly shut up.

Putin and China are tougher.  Not sure how the President will handle those villains who are not outright intimidated by him. Big time chess game. No clear favorite.

So there you have it going into Daylight Savings Time, which Trump does not seem to like.

The sun should be very afraid.

New column coming Sunday.
