So now, two and a half months after your humble correspondent loudly blew the whistle on JetBlue, the Secretary of Transportation Peter Buttigieg says he might discipline the airline industry for irresponsible business practices. Maybe. Could happen. Might not. Pete is uncertain.
The American taxpayers funded $54 billion in Covid airline relief and all we got for our money was disrespect. Delays. Cancellations. Lame excuses. Thousands of lies. Millions of suffering passengers.
Mr. Buttigieg sought to speak with airline moguls last week. But his flight from DC to New York was canceled. So, he had to drive six hours.
Serves him right.
The airlines are in chaos, and most people know it. What they don't know is that Pete and the feds can levy fines for deceptive behavior. Big fines.
But Pete and his boss, Joe B., see no urgency here. Pete says he thinks the airlines will get better. How would he know? He doesn't even understand why they're bad.
The reason is a shortage of pilots and other skilled workers. Many of them took buyouts during Covid with the $54 billion. They haven't been replaced because that costs money, and the air chieftains don't care to spend. They know many folks HAVE to fly.
Pete Buttigieg is doing a miserable job, so he fits right in with the rest of the Biden administration. Soon,
Pete will be thrown out of his cushy job along with all Biden personnel.
Maybe the Pete-Meister will then get a job running a US airline.
Call it Jet Terrible.
