First They Came For the Comedians

Perhaps some left-wingers in Congress are contemplating a new amendment to the Constitution. It might read something like this:

'The right of a citizen to lose money without consequence shall not be
denied, so long as that citizen is of the proper political persuasion.'

It could be the 28th Amendment or perhaps an extension to James Madison's Bill of Rights as Amendment 10-A.

That kind of constitutional protection would help victims of severe abuse like Stephen Colbert.  His talk show, a nightly barrage of 'humor' aimed at conservatives, reportedly loses tens of millions annually.  But because he is a man of the left, the show's cancellation ignited paroxysms of outrage.   Celebrities clutched their very expensive pearls, politicians demanded investigations, and other talk show hosts predicted doom while crying 'censorship.'  A typical reaction came courtesy of The View's not-very-bright Sunny Hostin:  'If the comedians are being attacked,' she declared, 'our Constitution is being dismantled.'  She said it with a very straight face.

Keep in mind that Paramount and CBS are giving Colbert ten months to ridicule and slander President Trump while collecting his $385,000 weekly paycheck.  Any self-respecting 'censor' would have yanked him off the air immediately, but his 'Late Show' will grace the airwaves until May.

Colbert's sycophantic supporters argue that he has the highest ratings in late-night network TV.  That's damning by very faint praise since Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, and the others are also hemorrhaging viewers.  The only exception is Fox News' 'Gutfeld!,' which averages about a million more viewers than Colbert.  Greg Gutfeld is unquestionably conservative and mercilessly skewers Democrats, but he never forgets rule number one: Be Funny.

Stephen Colbert lost his humor – and much of his audience – as his Stage 4 Trump-hatred metastasized.   And if your ratings sink while your show loses money, you will eventually be shown the door, given the pink slip, pick your cliché.

Turn a profit or lose your job!  It's a timeless and ironclad rule of business that can only be changed by expanding the Bill of Rights.  So where is Jimmy Madison when he is so desperately needed, especially by his fellow Jimmys?
