The vote will be close.

 

In the interest of fairness, let's lay out some facts.  The former army major fought in Iraq and Afghanistan winning the Bronze Star, so he's a brave guy.

 

Politically, Mr. Hegseth is conservative and has publicly opposed women in combat. That makes him a marked man among progressives.

 

Pete Hegseth has no criminal record, but apparently, Senator Mazie Hirono believes he's committed some kind of crime beyond personal indiscretions.  The veteran settled a case, as millions of other Americans have, for personal reasons. There is no crime in protecting yourself and family by using the legal system.

 

Someone tell Mazie.

 

But that wouldn't do any good because the Democratic Senator from Hawaii doesn't care.  Her job, which she relishes, is trying to destroy people with whom she disagrees.

 

The crux of the Hegseth matter is whether he has the skill set to run the largest corporation in the world.  That would be the Pentagon.  There is scant evidence that he's qualified to do that.

 

However, President Trump wants to give him a chance.  And therein lies the key issue: should Hegseth get one?

 

All the democrats will vote against the man.  If they defected their careers would be over.  If just three Republicans vote no, Pete Hegseth goes down.
