So, your humble correspondent was petitioned by the French magazine L'Express to talk American politics, and here's what I told the reporter.

President Trump wants Europe to prosper because that helps the USA, but he's not going to pay for the continent's collective defense because that drains American funds.

That Europeans don't generally understand Mr. Trump.  He's a provocateur, yes, but also a savvy deal-maker.  I believe he'll get a ceasefire in Ukraine fairly quickly.  Gaza is more difficult.

Europeans are also way too dependent on state-run media like the BBC and don't pick up the rhythms of American politics. They don't understand what a disaster President Biden has been for working Americans whose take-home pay is being drained by high taxes and foolish policies. In Europe, most folks are dependent on government.  Not here.  Most of us earn our way and want the bureaucracy out of the way - a big reason Trump won.
