The sight of North Korean tyrant Kim Jung Un walking across his militarized border to meet with his South Korean counterpart was truly stunning and a hugely positive step for the world.
Yet many Americans have little idea what’s going on or why it’s happening in the first place. If Kim had taken Stormy Daniels with him, then the folks might pay attention.
There are two primary reasons that North Korea is becoming less bellicose: first, China has made it clear that nuclear provocations are hurting the world economy and that if Kim doesn’t knock it off, China will hurt him.
That kind of threat makes things happen.
The second reason is Donald Trump. The North Koreans know that he, unlike President Obama, might actually relish bombing them.
So North and South Korea have agreed to end their conflict after more than 70 years of strife. That is a major victory for the world and for President Trump.
But the Trump-haters will quickly pivot away from the story and get back to Stormy or whoever. For them, nothing else matters other than getting Trump out of the White House.
There will never be detente.
