There is no question that New York State is in trouble with hundreds of thousands leaving. Generally, poorer folks replace them, so tax revenues drop. Just this week, there is a report spotlighting all the empty office space in Manhattan. Corporate tax receipts will soon recede as well. The state is sinking deeper into debt; all services will eventually suffer.
The leftists running the city and state could not care less. They generally despise capitalism and the citizens who benefit from it. They want to collapse the criminal justice and financial systems and are partially succeeding in doing so.
California, Illinois, Oregon, and Washington State are in the same position, destroying traditional infrastructure to create a socialist utopia where equity rules.
The collateral damage is public safety. Some poor neighborhoods are now literally run by drug gangs who terrorize the defenseless with little fear of detention. No bail is, of course, a get-out-of-jail-free card. Governors Gavin Newsom and Kathy Hochul are playing monopoly with people's lives. Miscreants, including hard drug dealers, have little to fear in the Empire State.
So why don't I leave New York? Well, my family has been here since 1868. Deep ties. Plus, my purpose is to look out for the folks and expose the bad guys. Tough to do in Palm Beach. Need the northern edge.
So we soldier on, hoping the citizenry will wise up at the ballot box.
But it's getting late.
