"I want the truth to be said."
- Spandau Ballet
Many events have occurred after 12 New Yorkers found Donald Trump guilty of "falsifying business records" 34 times. And few of them are good for the country.
Perhaps the worst thing is that the concept of truth once again got bruised and battered in a way injurious to every American. So, I am here to say the truth about this case fully knowing that most human beings believe what they want to believe - sometimes with little regard for factual reality.
Let's begin with President Biden, a man whose idea of the truth is saying repeatedly that inflation stood at nine percent when he took office. It was less than two percent.
Mr. Biden puffed up the Trump jury by telling the world how outstanding they are - regular Americans doing their civic duty. We should be proud of all juries.
Well, I covered the O.J. Simpson trial and the Los Angeles jury let the vicious murderer walk free because they hated the racist detective involved with the prosecution. The Simpson jury did not deliver justice and that is not a rarity. Many juries decide cases on emotion or prejudice. True. Everyone knows that especially African Americans.
President Biden also fell back on that tired cliche "nobody's above the law." I swear if Joe ever had an original thought, it would die of loneliness.
Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg also trotted out the "nobody" slogan. Strange because in his jurisdiction thousands of violent criminals are not only above the law - they laugh at the law. Here comes the truth Alvin, ready? You dismiss about 15 percent of cases brought to you by the police and plea down an unbelievable 60 percent of felonies to misdemeanors where the bad guys usually walk. More truth. As a result of Bragg's dereliction of duty, thousands of innocent people have been harmed, some killed.
But there's Alvin at the podium spouting gibberish that his office prosecutes crimes without "fear or favor."
Insulting doesn't even begin to cover it.
And then there's the genesis of the "hush money" case. Two women attempting to shakedown Donald Trump for money right before the 2016 election. Nice. Give us money or we'll try to ruin you and hurt your family. How about that Joe and Alvin? Nobody above the law here?
This entire display should go down in history as a travesty. And here's a final truth: there will be unintended consequences from the exposition. And they will be bad for the country. And I say that without fear or favor.
