The Biden administration and the White House Correspondents' Dinner this weekend have showcased how the mainstream media has failed us during this presidency.
In the time before Trump, Barack Obama was taken to task by the media for limiting access and avoiding the press.
While that wasn't the lead story on the newscasts or front pages, it was made public that many journalists did not like former President Obama's dismissal of the Fourth Estate.
The publication described Obama's relationship with the press as "hostile."
Fast forward to Donald Trump's four years in office, when the President made the position of White House press secretary almost obsolete. For all the criticism directed at Trump, including the now-debunked Russia collusion campaign, he took the press head-on.
Trump sparred with the White House press corps and took questions regularly. If anything, he interacted too much, freely speaking his mind and sometimes saying things that he should have kept to himself. I would argue that his comments about bleach during the pandemic weren't necessary, but I digress.
Fourteen years later, POLITICO has written another report this past week, showcasing the quiet conflict between The New York Times and the Biden administration.
The Times does come across as arrogant and full of themselves, but the Biden White House has been careful to protect the octogenarian President, even skipping a softball Super Bowl interview with CBS News.
Last week, Biden gave an in-depth interview with Howard Stern, a former shock jock who simulated sex on the airwaves, wore blackface to mock Whoopi Goldberg, mocked Mexicans, and the murder of Latina singing sensation Selena.
But Trump called ALL Mexican migrants criminals! Can someone explain how cancel culture works again?
Let's be fair. Stern apologized for his Selena comments. He probably apologized for some of the other stuff; the man has reinvented himself in the last decade. But he is not a hard-hitting interviewer. He is a Biden supporter, though.
The reality of the situation is that Biden is being protected, and while he can read jokes off a teleprompter written by liberal writers, he can't work off script.
Who knows where he'll Forrest Gump himself in American history when he speaks at another campaign event?
And why won't the press speak more about this? Most liberal reporters believe Donald Trump is a 'threat to democracy.'
They think they're working for the greater good, and they're trying to force those good times back. That's why the press is soft on this issue.
