Bill & Beck on the Latest White House Drama, Putin's Missile Threat, Gun Control, and More

Bill appeared on the Beck radio program to weigh in on the Trump administration’s rocky week, the gun debate, and the uncertain future of Attorney General Jeff Sessions – which Bill suggests is not so uncertain at all.

First up, Trump’s plan to impose tariffs on foreign imports of steel and aluminum.

“Trump is a gamble kind of guy, he is rolling the dice that his bellicose style is going to back people down over seas and he will then make deals that are great for America… That is what this is all about.

“He very rarely carries through on these kind of extreme actions. He puts them out and people get nervous – particularly in China – and then they come to some kind of accommodation.”

Bill predicted that Trump will not actually follow through on the reported tariffs on steel and aluminum but leverage his rhetoric to get a better deal for America. “Trump knows the only way he will get reelecated is if the economy stays in a good place."

Beck was unconvinced this is worth waging a trade war over, but Bill contends China would be inclined to work things out and give Trump a symbolic victory because of their own economic problems.

Bill and Beck then waded into the ongoing gun conversation currently underway in America. Bill supports three forms of increased gun control:

  1. lifting the legal age to purchase a gun to 21 years of age. This does not stop those under 21 from carrying and going hunting under the purview of their parents
  2. increasing background checks. Currently only 38 states are required to report everything to background checks.
  3. putting armed security guards in America’s public schools.

According to Bill, the banning of certain guns –  namely AR-15s – will never happen. Trump would never sign it. Democrats might try if they had the presidency and both houses, but it would likely be ruled unconstitutional. Not a concern.

Switching gears to the ongoing Jeff Sessions saga, Bill put forth a new nickname for Jeff Sessions: Rip Van Sessions. The guy is napping on the job! According to Bill, Sessions does not act because he does not want to take the heat. We need a tough guy in that role and Bill does not think Sessions is cut out for the job.

Bill supports Rudy Giuliani for the job – he is a tough guy. Beck was not in agreement with that pick and thinks Sessions could do the job. Bill concluded that Sessions is out of there simply because Trump does not like him. Of course, even though he was brutally attacked for being racist, CNN will canonize him the moment he is let go from the White House.
