Is the Obama Administration Losing the War on Terror?
Guest:Charles Krauthammer
"125 U.S. Special Forces have evacuated Yemen because terrorists are running wild. Last September, President Obama called Yemen a success story in the war on terror, but obviously things have changed. In Tunisia, authorities have arrested more than 20 suspected terrorists after 23 people were massacred in Tunis. In Libya, terrorists affiliated with ISIS are battling to control that country because there is no central authority. In Syria, ISIS continues to control thousands of square miles, trying to depose the Assad regime. More than 200,000 people have been killed in that conflict. And in Iraq, at least 19 people were killed today after three separate terror bombs exploded in Baghdad. That country is now seeing fighting between ISIS and Iranian-backed militias. President Obama's policy of non-engagement in the Middle East is a disaster. In the waging of any war you must have a strategy, but there is no strategy to fight ISIS, al Qaeda and the other jihadist groups. The president points to a phantom coalition of 60 countries, which exists only on paper. And so he has only Iran as a possible victory. The deadline for the latest nuclear weapons negotiation is next week and Mr. Obama wants the framework of a deal. But the Iranians understand they have the stronger bargaining position. If President Obama doesn't get a deal with the mullahs he will look like a total failure. To be fair, he inherited a messy situation from President Bush. But there is no question that Mr. Obama has made the situation worse by a series of tactical blunders, including removing all U.S. troops from Iraq. How on earth ISIS could gain incredible power without President Obama doing anything is almost impossible to believe, and the 'jayvee' comment will haunt him forever. So it is time for the administration to admit what's happening and to finally get a strategy to defeat the jihadists."

Charles Krauthammer opined on the Talking Points Memo and the war on terror. "I'll correct you on a few details," he began, "including the one about the 'mess' that was supposedly left in Iraq by the Bush administration. David Petraeus just said that there were three years of stability after the surge until Barack Obama decided to liquidate our presence in 2011. And when the CIA director says ISIS is being slowed or stymied in Iraq, that is not by us, it is by Shiite militias under Iranian commanders. Iraq is being handed over into the hands of Iran." Dr. K also expressed total bewilderment at President Obama's apparent nonchalance. "He has a strange serenity about the fact that we had to evacuate the embassy in Yemen and we had to evacuate Libya. He has a strange detachment, and I think he believes he is a strategic genius and that the Iran nuclear deal is a solution to our losing the war on terror."
What the Left Wants
Guests:Alan Colmes & Mary Katharine Ham
A few radical progressives openly call for the federal government to provide a guaranteed income to every American. The Factor asked Alan Colmes and Mary Katharine Ham to opine. "It's very fashionable to talk about income inequality," Ham began, "but can we talk about the glaring blind spot you need to say 'Marxist socialist utopia?' There are hundreds of millions of people in mass graves across the world, and more are still being put there, in service to this ideology, which requires a centralized force to decide everyone's income." Colmes contended that the extreme left is the political home for very few Americans. "Most people on the left are not for the government giving everybody money. I think the Democratic Party has moved to the right and President Obama is governing as a moderate president."
Presidential Politics
Guests:Larry Sabato & Bob Cusack
Ted Cruz has officially entered the Republican race for president, staking out his turf on the party's far right. Political scholars Larry Sabato and Bob Cusack joined The Factor with their analysis. "Ted Cruz's chances of winning the nomination are not very good," Sabato declared. "He knows how to run an anti-establishment campaign, but even many conservative Republicans who agree with him believe he would be likely to lose a general election to Hillary Clinton. He's seen as too far to the right." Cusack was not quite as dismissive of Cruz's prospects. "I give him a ten percent chance of winning the nomination. His problem is the center-right, where he has upset a lot of king-makers in the Republican Party. He needs to raise money and he needs to make the case that he can beat Hillary Clinton."
Powerful New Movie
Guest:Kelsey Grammer
The Factor welcomed actor Kelsey Grammer, who plays the malevolent King Herod in the upcoming movie version of "Killing Jesus." "You lend yourself to the role," Grammer began, "and it doesn't necessarily reflect on you. I researched Herod and he was a man of great accomplishment, although he murdered half his own children. He was probably worried about being assassinated all the time." Grammer also testified to his own personal belief in the story of the virgin birth. "Jesus is the savior, and without apology I am a Christian. I was raised as a Christian Scientist and he's the guy." The Factor lauded Grammer for skillfully portraying "one of the worst men in the world."
Fair Media Coverage?
Guest:Bernie Goldberg
Bernie Goldberg elaborated on some criticism he leveled at Fox News last week. "Fox News has the best newscast on television," he began, "which is Special Report with Bret Baier. It also has the best Sunday show and the best Washington bureau. Fox is a very important counter-balance to the liberal media. But conservatives often go easy on their own. Fox News was a cheerleader for the Tea Party and, even worse, some people on this channel tried to turn Cliven Bundy, a yahoo rancher in Nevada, into an American folk hero simply because he was against the federal government." The Factor defended those at Fox News who covered the Bundy saga: "When the story was first presented to me, I didn't cover it, but I don't blame the people who dove in. There are Americans who believe the federal government is far too intrusive and that's what this story was about in the beginning."
What Do You Owe Your Country?
Guest:Jesse Watters
Jesse Watters tracked down some young people and asked them what, precisely, they think about their country. Among the comments: "It's enabled me to never work a day in my life" ... "I think it's awful" ... "I want to move to Europe" ... "Americans are stupid and boastful" ... "America has given us a lot but it has also taken a lot" ... "Why would I owe America anything?"

Factor Words of the Day
Fern Baker, Jerusalem, Israel: "Bill, you are uninformed about Israel. Obama hates Netanyahu because he is a conservative. Period."

Marcy Shain Messa, Ra'anana, Israel: "President Obama does not like Netanyahu because he campaigned for Romney in 2012. I see Mr. Obama as pro-Israel."

Jeff Rowan, Connellsville, PA: "Karl Rove is deep into the milquetoast side of the Republican Party. The establishment wants to keep control regardless of what's good for the country."

Gayle Nance, Sparks, NV: "It's okay that Glenn Beck has left the Republicans. I am quitting the Democrats. So it's a wash."
Don't Race to Discuss Race
Discussions about race with sincere and smart people can be enlightening and worthwhile, but casual discussions about racial matters rarely turn out well.
