Talking Points Memo & Top Story
The Murder of Kate Steinle
"As we reported last night, 32-year-old Kate Steinle was murdered in San Francisco, allegedly by a criminal alien who had been deported five times and had seven felony convictions in the USA. Talking Points said that Mayor Ed Lee and the eleven city supervisors are directly responsible for Kate's death. That's because San Francisco is a sanctuary city that does not cooperate with the federal government, even on holding and identifying criminal aliens. Sanchez was in custody in San Francisco and Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi let him out, defying ICE officials. Sheriff Mirkarimi should resign immediately. The cold truth is Kate Steinle is collateral damage to the insane far-left politics that have long-corrupted the City by the Bay. Dangerous people are walking around because of political correctness. The mayor and the supervisors want to seem sympathetic to illegal aliens. That's what this is about, the whole thing is absolutely disgusting. But there is some good news, as Kate may have not died in vain. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has told The Factor he is meeting with the Senate leadership to discuss 'Kate's Law.' As we suggested, Congress should pass legislation that would impose a mandatory minimum five-year sentence on any illegal alien that is deported and then comes back. The word 'mandatory' is crucial. Congress must write Kate's Law so if officials do not enforce the mandatory sentence, they themselves can be prosecuted. If anyone opposes Kate's Law, we will tell you who they are. Also, you can get involved. We have a petition on BillOReilly.com that supports Kate's Law. We will forward the petition to the House and Senate leadership, as well as to the White House. It is long past time for Congress to protect the American people. This sanctuary city business has got to end. Any city, town or county not cooperating with Homeland Security should immediately lose federal funding. Enough is enough!"

The Factor was joined by former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who also excoriated San Francisco officials. "There is no excuse for not reporting someone who has a criminal conviction," he said, "and there is no excuse for not keeping that person in custody. The simple fact is that this has to be stopped at the border." Giuliani laid out a specific program for sealing the border with Mexico. "We have 50 Border Patrol stations, we space them 40 miles apart, and we man them with 500 Border Patrol agents each. We also use cameras and institute a CompStat program that tells you where people are coming in. At the same time, you make it easy to get a guest worker visa for people who come here to work."
Impact Segment
Immigration Chaos
The Factor invited Monica Crowley and Leslie Marshall to opine on the idea of a "Kate's Law" to punish criminal illegal immigrants who return to the country. "There will be resistance," Crowley lamented, "despite the fact that it is common sense and would be justice for the victims of illegal immigrants. The resistance will come from Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, a lot of Democrats, and the open borders lobby." Marshall theorized that even some Republicans will oppose new legislation. "With the exception of Donald Trump, no one else on the right running for president is calling out Democrats on sanctuary cities. Republicans with large Hispanic constituencies will oppose a 'Kate's Law.'" The Factor credited Donald Trump with bringing this issue to the forefront: "Whether you agree with him or not, Donald Trump is the guy who lit the fuse on this whole debate and it is going off the charts right now."
Unresolved Problems
President Obama's Latest ISIS Strategy
President Obama paid a high-profile visit to the Pentagon this week to speak with his military aides about ISIS. Fox News strategic analyst Lt. Col. Ralph Peters dismissed the president's approach as pure showmanship. "He went to the Pentagon," Peters surmised, "because this was a way of showing that he's serious instead of doing anything serious. President Obama is getting high-level briefings every day and he knows there is a serious problem with Islamic State. But he can't bring himself to accept that there is only a military solution. No religious insurgency has ever been put down with empathy, aid, and negotiations - you can't negotiate with cobras!"
Stossel Matters
The Walmart Debate
Many "social justice" warriors despise Walmart and demand that the retailer pay its workers more. Fox Business Network John Stossel entered the No Spin Zone to heap praise on Walmart and its business model. "They found a better way to get stuff to people for less," he said, "and the average family saves $2,000 a year because of price competition. How are you exploiting workers when people are eager to work there? There was one store in Washington where they had 23,000 applicants! America is much better off because of Wal-Mart."
Is It Legal?
Bill Cosby Update
New court documents indicate that Bill Cosby admitted to giving women Quaaludes prior to having sex with them. Legal analysts Lis Wiehl and Kimberly Guilfoyle elaborated on the sordid case. "Some of the allegations against him go back to 1965," Wiehl reported, "so the statute of limitations on sexual assault has run out in most cases. But there are a lot of women out there accusing him of defamation, saying he called them liars." Guilfoyle added that Cosby faces dozens of accusations. "There are 39 women from all over the place, there are six different states where these incidents are alleged to have occurred. His defense will be that he did not personally malign these women." The Factor concluded, "Bill Cosby is finished in the court of public opinion and he also faces big problems in the real courtroom."
What the Heck Just Happened?
Taking Shots at the U.S.
The Al Jazeera network created an Independence Day video mocking the USA as a nation of fat, gun-toting pornographers. Greg Gutfeld and Bernard McGuirk opined on the video. "I was wondering what the Al Jazeera audience thought," Gutfeld quipped, "and so I asked him. He seemed to be okay with it. Al Jazeera poking fun at us for our social ills is like Ted Bundy criticizing your dating habits. We may have a porn problem, but it beats honor killings and throwing gay people off rooftops. They should shut up!" McGuirk also lambasted Al Jazeera and its rabid anti-Americanism. "MSNBC must be thinking, 'Why didn't we think of this for the Fourth of July?' Al Jazeera's regular programming includes shows like 'How I Met Your Mullah' and 'Larry the Car Bomb Guy.' They can now add 'America's Got Taliban Sympathizers.'"

Viewers Sound Off
Antonio Guthrie, Sierra Vista, CA: "Bill, your assessment of San Francisco's pathology in the death of Kate Steinle is harsh, but accurate. Most Mexicans are the salt of the earth, including my mother and my wife. However, the cities that do not enforce immigration laws tend to attract the worst elements."

Kenneth Dean, Austin, TX: "I've lived on the southwest border with my Mexican-American spouse for a long time. We have seen enormous changes. The fact is that too many wealthy people on both sides of the border benefit from the illegal flow of drugs and people."

Gary Villard, Bangkok, Thailand: "Juan Williams has the audacity to defend San Francisco officials. He has moved too far left."
Tip of the Day
Avoiding Propaganda
As more propagandists put out fallacious, ideologically-driven arguments, it's more important than ever to seek the truth and walk away from deceit.
