More Trouble for Hillary
Eric began Friday's show with the growing furor over Hillary Clinton's use of private email accounts while running the State Department. Conservative attorney Cleta Mitchell alleged that Clinton is clearly in legal jeopardy. "She broke the law and she broke regulations," Mitchell declared. "The Federal Records Act made it very clear that emails must be considered part of public records, and all records are supposed to be preserved in government servers." But Democrat Mathew Littman depicted the story as the proverbial tempest in a teapot. "This is such a manufactured scandal. Hillary released 55,000 emails or documents and she has said she'll release all of them. Madeleine Albright, Colin Powel, and Jeb Bush all used private email addresses." Eric concluded that the former secretary of state willfully skirted the law: "The most egregious thing that Hillary Clinton did wasn't just using a private email account, she also used private servers in her home, guaranteeing that she could dictate what becomes public record and what doesn't."
Damaging the Democratic Party?
Democrats Nomiki Konst and Marjorie Clifton joined Eric to assess whether the Clinton email story is damaging their party. "There are still a lot of unknowns," Clifton began, "and she's been very ready to put forth the emails. A lot of politicians have used private email, and a lot of the Republican candidates have been very quiet about this. Right now the reality is that Hillary Clinton has a seven to ten point lead on every potential Republican candidate, she's still very popular." Konst worried that anointing another Clinton is very risky for Democrats. "The problem with dynasties is that they seek to protect themselves more than the institution of democracy. She's trying to avoid the Freedom of Information Act, and that's not right. We're settling, and that's not good for the party or for America."
Conceding to Iran?
Is the Obama administration being too deferential to Iran, which has often threatened to annihilate Israel? Eric posed that question to security analysts Richard Grenell and Tom Collina. "We all want to stop Iran from getting a nuclear bomb," Collina said, "but the question is how best to get there. The negotiations that the United States and its allies are pursuing with Iran is the best path to stop Iran from getting a bomb. This deal will be inspected and verified by international monitors." Grenell, a conservative who worked in Republican administrations, ridiculed the prospective deal. "Obama has come up with a terrible deal that allows some enrichment, and the idea that we'll have inspectors watching Iran is not based in reality. Left-wingers just want to have a deal, any deal."
How to Defeat ISIS
Iraqi forces fighting ISIS for control of the city of Tikrit are actually getting help from Iranian commanders. Geraldo Rivera analyzed the battle and the cost of America's absence. "We have left a power vacuum," he groused. "This is a major battle to regain Saddam Hussein's home town, so why isn't there an American general doing command and control, why isn't American air power engaged? It's because the president is tepid about this mission. If he were fully committed, we would have U.S. commanders, not Iranian commanders in charge. I don't know why he is not sufficiently engaged, but we need to vastly increase America's presence on the ground. We need to declare war." Eric buttressed that argument with some stark statistics: "In the eight months we've been fighting ISIS in Syria and Iraq, we've had 2,716 air strikes. When we declared war in Iraq, we had 100,000 strikes in the first five weeks!"
Ferguson P.D. Investigation
After a lengthy investigation, the U.S. Department of Justice has declared that Officer Darren Wilson was not guilty of racial bias when he shot and killed Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. Eric invited reaction from radio talk show host Richard Fowler and Tea Party activist Niger Innis. "You have to look at the evidence," Fowler stated, "and the DOJ report says there is clear racial bias in the Ferguson police department. Some of those things spilled over into the Michael Brown case. The problem we have in this country is racism, over and over we see police officers using excessive force when dealing with men of color." Innis accused the administration of turning over the race card far too frequently. "Eric Holder and Barack Obama jumped the gun on the Ferguson situation and they helped create a terrible situation. History is going to show that this administration is the most racially divisive administration since Woodrow Wilson segregated the government. Al Sharpton, Eric Holder, and President Obama should all apologize."
Janice Dean enters the 'No Spin Zone' to share her story
Eric introduced Bill's recent interview with Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean, whose colorful path to FNC began in Canada. "I got into Carleton journalism school in Ottawa," she recalled, "which was very prestigious. But I dropped out within three or four months because I found out that I wasn't going to get on camera or do any reporting until the fourth or fifth year. So I worked as a police dispatcher, then went to another college and took radio and television broadcasting. I got a job at the local classic rock station, where I was an overnight DJ." Dean's journey continued when she landed a radio job in New York City. "I applied to work for Don Imus as his entertainment reporter and I got the job. Eventually a very nice makeup person took my tape to Fox and it got to Roger Ailes' office, so here I am. So I tell people that you never know where your next job will come from, always treat people with respect. That's how I got here."
Eric's Parting Shot at Hillary Clinton
Eric wrapped up Friday's show with a scathing takedown of Hillary Clinton, whose foundation raked in contributions from U.S. companies that received her help when she ran the State Department: "Mrs. Clinton lobbied the Algerian government for GE to build power plants there. After a multi-billion dollar deal was done, GE donated heavily to the Clinton Foundation. Then there's Boeing, which dropped $900,000 into the foundation after securing a $3.7 billion deal with Russia, again thanks to lobbying from Clinton. At least 60 companies that lobbied the State Department during her tenure donated more than $26 million to the Clinton Foundation. The Clintons think the laws don't apply to them, they've always thought they are bigger and better than you and me, and they never own up to anything. Wake up, America. This smells fishy because it probably is a rotting whale."
